‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1923’ Makes Major Change for Season 2

‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1923’ Makes Major Change for Season 2

1923 will soon begin shooting for its upcoming Season 2, but the Yellowstone prequel series will look different when it returns to the screen. According to reports, 1923 is moving its production from Montana to Texas for the new season.

Austin Business Journal reports that 1923 is moving to Austin to film its second season at ATX Studios, which marks a win for both the burgeoning television and film industry in Texas and the production. The state offered special tax incentives for the production to move from Montana, where most of Season 1 filmed.

Butte-Silver Bow County Chief Executive JP Gallagher tells the Montana Standard that the news is “disappointing,” but he understands the producers’ decision.

“Nevertheless, we respect the production team’s decision and acknowledge that these choices are influenced by factors beyond our control,” he adds. “We were in talks with the production about 1923 coming back to Butte because of the positive experience they had here, but state tax incentive programs were a major factor for the production to move to Texas.”

1923 stars Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton and Helen Mirren as Cara Dutton. They are the ancestors of Yellowstone patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner), and 1923 bridges the gap between previous Yellowstone prequel 1883 and the flagship original show, detailing how the Dutton family built its land empire amid various challenges from both nature and those who wish to take the land.

Paramount has confirmed 1923‘s second season, but no further details are available.
