A woman on Reddit has secretly begun the divorce process in order to leave her husband because he refuses to work.

When the couple first got together, the woman’s husband was an “amazing,” active partner who worked, was paid off the books and “did a lot of stuff” around the house.

However, that all changed when they got married two years ago.

“I’m at a lack of words for how bad of a decision that [getting married] was. He completely stopped working and is home all day saying he is in pain. He probably is, he was an athlete and a workhorse his whole life. I used to be afraid that he would step on my toe,” she wrote.

Because her husband stopped working, the woman, who works in healthcare, now pays all their bills by herself while he mostly sits around watching TV.

“He gets a [social security] check once a month. He buys groceries and makes a big deal of it and gets it done as quickly as possible so he can be back to watch his lineup of old antenna TV s–t. His license has expired, he has no way to get around and apparently, even though he went through four years of college, has zero understanding of technology,” she continued, adding he won’t even see a doctor when he’s ill.

Because of all this, the woman has begun filing divorce papers.

“If something happens to him, I’ll lose everything so I have started to fill out divorce papers online. I don’t want to kick him out but I can’t have him attached to me because he has no plans to work outside this house. I beg him to get at least a part-time job but he just can’t because he doesn’t want to go when I get home and doesn’t have a working car anymore. It’s killed us. I’m exhausted and feel used,” she concluded.

Users in the comments section sided with the frustrated wife.

“He sounds maybe depressed. Sadly, if he won’t take help and he doesn’t respond to your saying the load is too much, you don’t have a choice,” one person wrote.

“Get a divorce. He has a sugar mama in you,” another suggested.

“Get out of that relationship, bet you he will be back at work before you know it,” someone else weighed in.

“He has to get up and do something. Nobody can sit home all day as it’s not healthy. You are not his mother. Tell him to shape up or ship out, no more sitting around,” another user commented.
