WATCH: Colt Ford’s Breathless Promise to Fans: ‘I Am Coming Back’

Colt Ford delivered an emotional video message to fans this week. His almost breathless statement serves as a good news / bad news health update.

The singer suffered a heart attack after a show in Gilbert, Ariz., on April 4.

  • Talking to nationally syndicated radio show Big D & Bubba, Ford said he’d just returned to his bus and texted his fiancée as the heart attack began.
  • Brantley Gilbert was by his side the entire time.
  • He’s been in intensive care since the incident and has canceled shows through August.

Did Colt Ford Die?

Colt Ford is still alive, but he says he died multiple times as emergency teams rushed to find him the proper medical care. “I had so much trauma in my body and my heart, I had to have three stents put in,” he adds.

Doctors would tell him he had a 0.1 percent chance of living, and all methods used to keep him alive were used. His gallbladder failed during all of this — of course, Ford didn’t learn what had happened until days later.

Eleven days after the 54-year-old’s heart attack, Ford’s team provided an update that said he was making significant progress, but would need to cancel shows through Aug. 30. On social media, the singer makes it sound like he’ll be out longer.

“Thank y’all for all the prayers, the comments the love, the messages,” Ford says. “I got a long way to go. But I promise you this old country boy will get back.”

During the one-minute-long message, he mentions his fiancee, family and friends. He also admits he probably won’t be back this year. “But I’m coming back. I am coming back. I just love you guys so much,” he says.

“Make sure you take care of yourself. Things can sneak up on ya. But know that I’m coming back. I’m coming back, I promise you.”

Who Is Colt Ford?

Colt Ford (real name Jason Brown) first broke into country music with songs from his Ride Through the Country album in 2008. He was among the first to truly popularize mixing country and hip-hop, with artists like Brantley Gilbert, Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean noting his influence.

Ford is perhaps best known for co-writing Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem.”
