One week after a huge weekend of college football that saw a loophole used to close out a game between Oregon – plus Ohio State, and Tennessee taking heat for Morgan Wallen — how could we top that this weekend?
Well, the schedule shows it is more than ready for the challenge.
This week starts off with another Top 5 matchup as the 5th ranked Georgia Bulldogs head to Austin, Texas to take on the top-seeded Texas Longhorns. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have some pressure, as a second loss following their loss to Alabama earlier this season would put them in danger of missing the 12-team playoff.
And with a schedule that still has Ole Miss and Tennessee on it, UGA does not have much room for error. The Longhorns roll into this one unbeaten at 6-0, fresh off a beatdown of Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry last week. Quinn Ewers is back under center and the home crowd should help. This one kicks off at 7:30PM on ABC on Saturday (Oct. 19).
Not to be outdone, but there is another top matchup in the SEC as 11th-ranked Tennessee welcomes in 7th-ranked Alabama. The Tide will be looking for some revenge, as their last trip to Knoxville produced one of the best games of the decade, with the Vols getting the 52-49 win. Both teams come into this one with some questions: Can Alabama get some stops, and can the Vols get their offense on track? We will find out at 3:30PM on ABC on Oct. 19.
If you love running the ball and hate the forward pass, the BigTen has you covered on Saturday as the 24th ranked Michigan Wolverines head to Illinois to take on the 22nd ranked Fightin’ Illini. Both of these teams love to keep the ball on the ground, but Illinois has made some plays with the passing game behind Ole Miss transfer QB Luke Altmyer, who has a sparkling 14-1 TD-INT ratio. This one also kicks off at 3:30, but it’s on CBS.
You never know where the next great college football game will come from, but these three games are a good starting point for your remote.
