This Bank Fee Is Going Up … Again!

This Bank Fee Is Going Up … Again!

Everything costs more these days, and it seems as if every day brings another story of something else going up in price. Add ATM fees to the list.

According to reports, the average out-of-network ATM fee in 2024 now sits at $4.77 per transaction. That is an increase of $.05 from 2023.

Interestingly, the fees are different depending on what U.S. city you are trying to scoop some cash from. The highest city is Atlanta, where customers are ponying up an average of $5.33 per transaction. On the other side, if you need cash and want to “save,” Boston is the city for you, as the average bank fee in Bean Town only hits you for $4.16.

Double-check those accounts before making big purchases, because the last thing you want is to get smacked with unwanted fees. If your bank account is low, you may already know this, but overdraft fees are on the rise, as well. The national overdraft fee now sits at $27.08, which is another increase from 2023 when it was at $26.61. Previously, the national average of overdraft fees had actually dropped for two straight years after hitting a high mark of $33.58 in 2021.

Of course, this is just a small window of a much broader issue for most Americans: Dollars not lasting as long, random costs continuing to climb, and belts getting tighter and tighter.
