Morgan Wallen‘s bar has encountered another setback, this time with the opening date being postponed. According to a statement obtained by Billboard, This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen will not be opening its doors over Memorial Day Weekend as originally planned.
“We’re proud of our team who has worked tirelessly to prepare Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen for opening,” the statement reads. “The ground-up construction of a six-story venue launching with hundreds of team members is a tremendous amount of work and a complex process.”
“When we open, we want This Bar to be an exceptional experience for guests,” it continues. “Unfortunately, the process requires more time, and we are not able to open and provide that experience this Memorial Day weekend. Rest assured it will be well worth the wait. We look forward to welcoming guests soon.”
A new opening date has not been revealed.
Why Isn’t Morgan Wallen’s Bar Open?
Billboard cites a source who says the restaurant and entertainment venue is waiting for its final inspections. That same source claims the delay is not because of the Nashville Metro Council’s decision to deny approval for the bar’s exterior sign.
On May 21, the council voted to reject a 20-foot sign which would hang outside the bar on the side of the building, featuring Wallen’s name.
“I don’t want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who’s throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs,” at-large Council member Delishia Porterfield stated (quote via the Tennessean).
Wallen was arrested after he allegedly threw a chair off the roof of Chiefs — a bar owned by Eric Church — on April 7. He faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
