One New York City school teacher and single mom has left education for a more lucrative job: Hooters.
With it being back-to-school time in America, we are quickly reminded how underfunded some teachers and schools can be here.
Notoriously, teachers have low pay, and even have to dish out their own hard-earned money to supply their kids and classrooms with everything needed to have a successful school year.
Most teachers do it for the passion to educate, but passion doesn’t pay the bills, and sometimes enough is enough.
Single Mom Quits Teaching Job, Becomes Hooters Girl
Allinson Chavez is from Queens, N.Y., and was working as a schoolteacher, according to the New York Post.
The single mom said, “I was making $1,000 twice a month as an educator, now, I can make $1,000 in two days.”
If you’re keeping track at home, she was taking home about $24,000 a year, after taxes, as a teacher. She can now make that in 48 days at Hooters.
If you’re wondering if working at Hooters is as fulfilling as teaching. Chavez says, “I really do care about my customers. They come to Hooters to get away from their real-life stress, and I’m happy to give them my best service. It’s rewarding.”
Chavez is a saint among saints. She was a special education teaching assistant for 10 years. Her gig was a very stressful one.
“I had to deal with a lot of behavioral issues, sometimes the kids would become verbally and physically abusive,” she shared.
For Chavez, and teachers all across America, the struggle is real. The pay is low, the hours are plentiful and the stress is uncanny.
Hopefully working at Hooters is a lot more fun and financially rewarding for Chavez, as she navigates being a working single mom in today’s inflated economy.
