Seattle Police Lost 23 Guns + They Have No Clue Where They Are

This is truly a wild story out of Washington state. The Washington State Auditor is investigating a rather odd situation of missing police firearms in Seattle.

These aren’t just firearms missing out of the evidence room, which would be horrible in itself, these are actual police issued service guns that we are talking about here.

Seattle Police Lost 23 Guns

While gun safety is preached across America, after an internal inventory check, the Seattle Police Department have somehow let 23 firearms, from various branches of the department, go missing.

Some of these firearms have been missing since as far back as 2017, according to reports. After an internal audit by Seattle police in August, the Washington State Auditor is now investigating the situation.

Seattle Police have issued a statement.

“We’re going to do our best to ensure that we do better,” a spokesperson for Seattle Police said. “Until we find them, we’re going to keep looking for them.”

In 2019, an 18-year-old walked out of a training building with a police officer’s personal firearm. The teenager, who attended a police education program for youth, ultimately threw the stolen weapon from his vehicle off a bridge. Police later recovered it from on top of a building three days later.

These 23 firearms, however, are still unaccounted for and according to the local news report belong to training units, the department’s firing range or individual officers. The Seattle Police Department has entered the serial numbers into a database, so if they turn up elsewhere Seattle Police will be notified.

The missing firearms include:

  • 18 Glock pistol lower frames from the training unit.
  • A modified shotgun incapable of firing bullets from the training unit.
  • A lower of a Glock 22 from the police range.
  • A woodstock shotgun from either the range or from the quartermaster.
  • A pistol and a rifle from the locker of an officer who returned from military leave to find them gone.

If you or someone you know have information on where one of the aforementioned firearms might be located, you’re urged to reach out to the Seattle Police Department right away.
