Yellowstone fans just witnessed two of the most shocking deaths in the show’s five season history.

Does anyone think a third is not coming?

How Jamie will move forward, Beth and Rip’s future and who will get John Dutton’s ranch is all part of this week’s preview.

• Yellowstone Season 5, Ep. 13 airs on Paramount Network on Sunday (Dec. 8) at 8PM ET.
• Yellowstone returned with Ep. 9 earlier this month (Nov. 10). Spoilers from Ep. 9, Ep. 10, Ep. 11 and Ep. 12 are included below.
• The second half of Season 5 will not include Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton.

Officially, the show says this about Season 5, Ep. 13:

“Jamie begins to spiral, and later seeks advice. Beth and Travis make a deal. Kayce has an idea about the future of the ranch.”

They typically undersell what’s going to happen, so “Jamie begins to spiral” could mean he attempts to end his own life.

Am I the only one who refuses to believe there are just two episodes remaining?

Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 12 Recap:

Last week, Colby died trying to save Carter from an ill-tempered horse. It was a heartbreaking moment for Ryan, Teeter, the bunkhouse and, well, us. Some fans thought it served no purpose, but that’s not true — Colby’s death allows Carter to grow up some, which is very important if there is to be a Season 6 of Yellowstone led by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser (Beth and Rip), as is rumored.

More important to the end of this series is Kayce’s decision and actions. He’s made the choice presented to him in a vision quest that ended Season 4. Specifically, he’s choosing family over legacy, and his first order of business is to let John Dutton’s hitman know that if he messes with his family, he’ll find him.

Beth might not like this very much, which is important, because …

Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 13 Preview:

Beth and Kayce are no longer in lock-step about how to move forward. She wants revenge on Jamie and to protect the ranch to the degree that’s possible (see Rip selling assets in Ep. 12). Kayce just wants to protect Monica and Tate and get the heck out of Montana.

I think this is going to cause some tension that could crack a door for Jamie to live. Right now he should have no other priorities. A life in jail is probably the best he can hope for, and that only happens if he buries what he knows about the Duttons and comes clean about Sarah Atwood’s relationship with Market Equities.

Once that’s public, the ranch should be free from the state’s eminent domain plan. Beth can also sue the pants off of ME and fund operations for decades to come.

Prior to Colby’s death, the show had been setting us up for a Teeter tragedy. Her character was spiraling in Texas, with her boyfriend’s death being the final blow. She has to go find work elsewhere, right?

Lloyd is in a similar position: He’s at a crossroads, as he feels a big shifting at the Yellowstone Ranch. Change makes a man like him vulnerable. He’s old, lovable and a fan favorite — I mean, if you were Taylor Sheridan, could you resist?

However, killing him off would not just be gratuitous. Much like Colby’s death allows Carter to grow, Lloyd’s would free Rip. Two weeks ago, Beth wondered aloud what they could do if they weren’t tethered to the ranch.

Last week Rip conceded that the cowboy life will eventually kill him, too. Loyalty to his mentor Lloyd could be the final thread that keeps him there, and without that, he’d be free to go anywhere Beth wants him to.
