Rascal Flatts are turning 25 years as a band in 2024, and they’re finally touring their “farewell” tour that was scrapped by COVID in 2020.
This week, the trio announced their Life Is a Highway Tour — a return to the road so that they can see their longtime fans and thank them for being along for the ride for a quarter of a century.
If you’re wondering what the trio of Joe Don Rooney, Jay DeMarcus and Gary LeVox have been up to these last few years, the answer is not hanging out together.
Rascal Flatts Reveal They Haven’t Seen Each Other in Person in 5 Years!
Rascal Flatts sat down with Taste of Country Nights host Evan Paul this week, and he asked them if they had a meetup somewhere prior to the tour announcement to hash out any differences they might have had that made them hang up their hats for five years.
What they responded was kind of shocking.
“I gotta be honest today. This is the first time we have been together in 5 years, man,” Joe Don Rooney admits.
“We’ve communicated obviously through text and through emails and our management, but this is the first time. It’s wild,” he adds.
So as much as this tour is going to be a reunion, it’ll be a reintroduction as Rascal Flatts work to reignite that chemistry they once had. They’ve still got the same sense of humor, though.
“We saw each other in the back alley, just like the old days,” Rooney jokes.
“I had a wedding dress on, it got a little freaky,” DeMarcus chimes in.
“Gave him a big old kiss,” Rooney says back, furthering the joke.
So, have they at least rehearsed virtually?
All three replied at the same time with a firm, “nothing.”
When Rascal Flatts hit the road early next year, they’ll be leaning heavily on fans to help bring them back to the place they were when they were releasing hit after hit. Something tells us it won’t be tough for them to find their footing again.
Their Life Is a Highway Tour kicks off in February 2025.
14 Country Stars Who’ve Quit Touring + 4 Tried But Couldn’t
Life on the road was just too much for these 17 country stars.
You’ll find several legends in perfectly good health as well as at least two young (relatively) hitmakers on this list of stars who quit touring. You’ll also find four artists who pulled a Tom Brady — they tried to retire, but life at home just wasn’t what they longed for.
