Plane Lands Upside Down at Airport, Pilot Survives

CGI is a crazy thing in 2024 — they can make it look like anything really happened in movies and on TV.

But this really did happen: A pilot landed his plane upside down at the airport and survived.

To the beautiful state of Rhode Island is where we go for this gem, which happened at the Quonset State Airport. One look at it from above, and you can see it is a really pretty place to take off from and land:

Quonset State Airport, or OQU for short, is home to both the Air and Army National Guard, who use the facility for training and aviation operations. So while this airport likely sees some cool action, it hasn’t seen anything like what unfolded recently on the tarmac.

According to local news affiliate WPRI, the airport received a mayday call from a small aircraft on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 10, citing engine problems.

Next thing you know, the aircraft has made a seemingly safe landing on the runway … until you look a little closer and see that it landed upside down.

All that is known about the plane is that it is a single-engine plane that was registered in Cape Cod. A further investigation will show where it’s final destination was.

What we do know is that it ended up like a pineapple upside down cake on the tarmac:

Imagine being on duty at the airport, minding your own business, and you see a plane coming in for the approach … upside down. You might think you had a few too many and are seeing things.

The pilot was taken to a Rhode Island hospital for further evaluation, but will survive the incident.
