Travis Tritt may have a successful country music career these days, but life wasn’t a walk in the park for the singer growing up.

The “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive” singer shared a vulnerable post on social media detailing some of those hard times and included a photo of the single-wide trailer he called home.

Tritt tells the story behind the home, as well as the the lessons he learned during that time in his life:

“My sister just texted me this photo that she took today,” he begins in the caption. “In 1978, my parents divorced and my mom, sister and I moved into this cockroach infested single wide trailer. I was a high school freshman and had to transfer to a brand new school district where I knew nobody.”

“I absolutely hated being in that situation, but as I’ve grown older, I’ve realized that going through those hard times built character in me and made me strive to do better when I got older,” he adds.

“’Hard times are real, there’s dusty fields no matter where you go,'” he notes — a line from his song “Where Corn Don’t Grow.”

“I know there are people who grew up much worse than I did, but the struggles I faced as a teen make me relate to and have compassion for all those less fortunate,” Tritt continues in the heartfelt message. “I know these folks because in many ways, I’m one of you.”

Travis Tritt’s Childhood Hardships Resonates With Fans

Fans flooded the post’s comments section, with many sharing their own stories of growing up in similar situations, including fellow singer Randy Houser.

“Love it man. I had a very similar childhood,” Houser notes. “Me, my sister and my mom all raised each other. Low income housing and trailers for the win.”

“Many of us had to live in a crappy trailer at some point … definitely builds character,” one fan writes.

“Divorced, my mom worked two and three jobs to support four kids,” another shares. “I grew up poor, with a no quit work ethic based upon my raising. We share the same heritage.”

Adds another commenter: “Walls are just walls. It’s the love inside those walls that matters. I love your post.”
