Cruising on the thousands of America’s highways, you are bound to see some odd things, but seeing the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile flipped over? Truly unexpected.
It all went down — or over — on a busy Illinois highway around 11AM on July 22, when the Wienermobile crashed into another vehicle. That accident caused the Wienermobile to do a hot dog roll in the middle of the highway, leaving it on its side.
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile took a tumble when it squared off against a Hyundai sedan. They were both traveling north when the giant hot dog vehicle struck the sedan, lost control, overcorrected and rolled onto its side, per USA Today.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but it did cause at least an hour’s worth of traffic backup. Naturally, the rubber-necking was in full force for this accident — imagine being one of the lucky few to drive by and see a giant hot dog vehicle overturned on the highway?
It was a careful endeavor to get the famed Weinermobile back onto its wheels.
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has been a staple in American culture since the 1980s, so much so that you can live-track its location via its on-board GPS systems.
