Loretta Lynn‘s family is hurting today, as the singer’s oldest grandchild has died. Lynn Massey was the daughter of Lynn’s oldest child, Betty Sue Lynn.
- Lynn had six kids, four of whom were born before she reached age 20.
- At the time of her death in 2022, she had 25 grandchildren.
- Emmy Russell is perhaps her most famous grandchild, having gone far on American Idol last season.

A post shared to Lynn’s social media pages didn’t share many details, but showed appreciation for the support from friends, family and fans. Massey had been battling an illness for a long time.
Betty Sue died in 2013 at 64 years old from complications of emphysema. She also had a second daughter named Audrey Dyer.
Sadly, she is not the only of Lynn’s kids who preceded her in death: Oldest son Jack died in 1984. He drowned trying to cross the Duck River in Tennessee.
Son Ernest Ray Lynn has had his own health scares this year, but in a video posted earlier this month, he assured fans that he’s “feeling great.”
