Lainey Wilson Talks About Raising Kids With Fiancé Duck Hodges

Lainey Wilson Talks About Raising Kids With Fiancé Duck Hodges

Lainey Wilson doesn’t plan on going back home to Louisiana to raise her family.

But she says she’s hoping her future children have a childhood that’s similar to the one she enjoyed growing up.

On a new episode of This Past Weekend With Theo Von, Wilson — who got engaged to Devlin “Duck” Hodges early in 2025 — said she and Duck will probably raise her kids in Nashville.

“I think Nashville is just a good spot. Even if music wasn’t a thing, I think they’ve got good schools,” Wilson says.

“And I feel like you can go far out right now — you can go far out enough on any side and feel like you’re in the country, you know?” the singer goes on to say.

Even though Wilson and Hodges plan to raise their kids in the city, they’ll still be incorporating some aspects of the country raising they grew up with. Both hail from small towns: Wilson grew up in Baskin, La., while Duck was raised in Kimberly, Ala.

Lainey Wilson Wants More Outdoor Time Than Screen Time for Her Future Kids

Wilson says that she’s not planning to completely close off her kids from the modern-day world.

But she hopes they spend more time outdoors than they do in front of a TV.

“I want to raise my kids like [I was raised], playing in the dirt,” the singer reflects.

“I just want them to be outside and do things we grew up doing. You know what I’m saying? And just enjoy those things.”

The presence of technology and social media is a new challenge Wilson and Hodges will face, that wasn’t quite as omnipresent when they were kids themselves.

But the singer says she’s seen first-hand that limiting kids’ access to screens can have a positive effect.

“Me and Duck took some kids that he coached last year to eat Mexican food not too long ago,” she recounts, saying that two of the teens — 17-year-old twin boys — stood out to her.

“They were just, for 17 years old, carrying on great conversation, making eye contact — you could tell they were raised right,” she says. “And then I realized, they said they had never had social media.”

“I was like, ‘That’s why you can carry on a conversation,'” she continues.

Earlier in August, Wilson told Taste of Country that they still haven’t really started the heavy lifting of planning the event.

That’s because there’s so much else to plan.

Wilson says her tour calendar is filling up into 2027, with fewer and fewer dates available on the calendar for a wedding ceremony.
