Jesusfreakhideout.com: NightWolf Obsidian, “Airflow – Single” Review

NightWolf Obsidian is the musical identity of a multi-genre artist named Steven. Though he creates plenty of pieces using organic instruments (like his piano-based EP Ember and Ice), NightWolf also dabbles in electronic music. His most recent electronic piece is a trance/EDM track called “Airflow.” The track is excellently-produced and does a great job of walking the line between trance and industrial. It actually sounds like it could have fit on the Portal 2 soundtrack (specifically during one of the game’s exciting escape sequences). “Airflow” does a fabulous job of getting stuck in the listener’s head and could fit in well on an EDM playlist. However, I was a little disappointed upon reaching the end of the short, three-minute runtime, as I was anticipating that the song would eventually explode with percussion, perhaps going on another couple of minutes with a faster-paced, more energetic sound. Unfortunately, the drums just quietly stay in the background the whole time, never really reaching their full potential. That being said, “Airflow” is still a good listen, and it piqued my interest enough to follow NightWolf Obsidian on streaming services. If you like instrumental music in a variety of styles, you may want to go do the same, as there is surely more goodness to come.
