The top country songs of 2025 prove that the next generation has arrived, and we’re not just talking about the artists. Important songs from this year broke on streaming platforms or social media before eventually (in some cases) catching radio programmer’s attention.
More than ever, fans are separating the great from the good as less than half of the songs that make our list also made Billboard‘s list of the 60 most played radio songs of 2025. The FM dial is particularly slow to embrace duets, especially when one half of the vocal talent is from another genre.
This shift in how people find music isn’t new but the separation is becoming more dramatic.
- This year, 20 songs have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. There were 25 in 2024.
- Seven songs have led Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart, which includes sales, streaming and radio airplay data. There were only five last year.
- Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae’s “What I Want” has spent the most weeks (20) at the top of that chart.

Overall it’s hard to argue for anyone but Wallen for Artist of the Year as so many of his songs ranked high on airplay, streaming and sales charts in 2025. Zach Bryan, Post Malone and Luke Combs are others worth considering however, with less established artists like Megan Moroney and Riley Green coming on strong late.
