Jana Kramer Fires Back at Madison Prewett’s Spanking Remarks

Jana Kramer Fires Back at Madison Prewett’s Spanking Remarks

Jana Kramer is speaking out on a parenting debate that’s stirring up strong opinions — and she’s not holding back.

During the Monday (Aug. 11) episode of her Whine Down podcast, the country singer joined cohosts Kristen Brust and Kathryn Woodard to discuss The Bachelor star Madison Prewett’s spanking comments and her husband Grant Troutt’s parenting views on discipline.

Troutt called the idea of spanking daughter Hosanna “hilarious,” citing Bible verses in defense of corporal punishment — a stance that sparked a candid conversation among Kramer and her friends.

The Spanking Debate Origin

Prewett and Troutt’s spanking comments came during their own podcast and have since sparked strong reactions online.

“The Lord’s discipline is always off the heels of disobedience or sin,” Troutt said.

He continued, “Which will be hilarious, by the way, when we start spanking Hosanna. Which we will, on the record, because the Bible clearly says, ‘Folly is bound up in a child, but discipline drives it far away.’”

“It also specifically says discipline with a rod. Well, some people could say, ‘You can discipline them with time-outs.’ Hold on, it says with a rod,” Prewett added.

Kramer and Friends React

Brust said she found it “wild” to automatically assume spanking would be part of parenting.

“We talked about our views at home, but I never assumed I’d have to spank [my kids],” she explained. “I’ve never forward thought about hitting my kid.”

Woodard admitted she had spanked her children in the past, but stressed it was “never out of anger” — and that “it didn’t really work” for her family.

Faith, Parenting, and Different Views

Kramer, an outspoken believer in Christ, questioned whether the Bible truly supports spanking.

“I don’t think God wants us to take a rod and hit our kids,” she said. “That’s the piece I don’t understand. The rod can be your tone.”

The “Why Ya Wanna” singer — who shares Jolie, 9, and Jace, 6, with ex-husband Mike Caussin, and Roman, 20 months, with husband Allan Russell — made it clear she wasn’t judging Prewett’s and Troutt’s parenting style.

“I think there are other ways to discipline,” the One Tree Hill alum said. “I associate it with my negative past of things, and I don’t think you should ever be joyful about hitting.”

Agreeing to Disagree

While Brust, Woodard, and Kramer didn’t all share the same personal history with spanking, they agreed that it’s a deeply personal topic that every parent approaches differently.

13 Country Stars Whose Kids We Never See

For every country artist that invites the world to see their kids, there is one who would rather you focus on the back of his head. These 13 country artists are quietly (or in one case, not) private when it comes to their kids. That means very few pictures and short responses if asked about them.
