A woman on Reddit says the birthday gift she received from her husband made her cry for all the wrong reasons.
“Every time we go out shopping together for the last few months my husband has asked if I want to look and see if there are any sales on coffee machines. I say no each time. We don’t have the kitchen space and to be honest I’m not a huge coffee drinker and when I do I don’t mind drinking instant coffee. He drinks more coffee than I do. He got me my birthday present yesterday, and insisted I unwrap it today, even though my birthday isn’t until the 21st,” she began.
“I reluctantly unwrapped it after he asked me to several times. Lo and behold, it was a coffee machine. I can’t help but feel like he bought this more for himself. He’s currently out buying coffee grounds, cups, and toppings for it and I’m at home crying. I feel like an a–hole but I’m not happy at all. I’m hoping after I use it more I enjoy it but right now I feel like s–t,” she added.
When her husband returned home and asked if she wanted some coffee, he “got all excited about the settings and was saying he’s been on ‘coffee TikTok’ for a while now so he’s excited to play around with it,” to which she replied, “It seems like you got that more for yourself than me.”
“He seemed disappointed in this comment but asked if I wanted him to return it. I said he doesn’t have to return it and I’ll of course still use it, but probably not as much as him and reminded him I’m not big on coffee because it hurts my stomach and I’m trying a low sugar diet. He reassured me I’m still getting several more presents for my birthday on my actual birthday, which was definitely the reassurance I needed,” the woman concluded.

Users in the comments section sided with the woman and validated her feelings.
“Make sure for X-mas to get him something for the home that you want and is not interesting to him,” one user suggested.
“For his birthday, buy him the Coach purse you think will look good on you next to him. Or a couple’s spa day at your favorite spa,” another shared.
“He obviously bought it for himself to enjoy, just used your birthday as an excuse to get the gift,” someone else wrote.
“You should tell him this bothers you, because he clearly bought it for himself, and made you open it weeks before your birthday so he could enjoy making himself coffee. This was not a gift for you at all and your feelings are beyond valid,” another commented.
