FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — HolyName has dropped their latest aggressive worship offering in the EP Three Bar Cross, streaming everywhere now at https://bfan.link/three-bar-cross.

The single “Ritual” led the EP, and special merch drops accompanying the project are available for a limited time through https://rtvl.shop. “Ritual” is a moving expression of heart-opening encouragement through heavy music, going for radio adds now.

The rest of the project follows that precedent.

“Three Bar Cross is a continuation of the journey that Joey and I have been on in terms of our spiritual life and walk,” shares vocalist Tommy Green. “There’s a lot of confusion and sorrow and pain hope and frustration and anxiety when you leave a place that was once familiar. Or when you feel like the places that you used to love don’t make sense to you anymore. This is, in some ways, a very hopeful reconciliation for me, letting go of certain things that I used to be really attached to has actually brought immense healing.”

The hardcore singer elaborates, “When I was in Sleeping Giant and these other ministries, I was so very honored to be a Christian and to be someone who was laying down his life for Christ in a way that I understood. I was really proud of Jesus. I spent years of my life sharing and preaching in a very specific way. It’s been terrifying and really painful to let go of some of the things that used to define me. But the reality is, in finding my place in the church, I’m beginning to experience profound healing in ways I didn’t think were possible before.”

For Tommy, that place is in Christian Orthodoxy. The music found on Three Bar Cross (a reference to the symbol of the cross commonly used in Orthodoxy) is steeped in that sense of liturgy-meets-metal. “Christ Has Risen” weaves choral vocals with brutal riffs. “Ritual” is radio-accessible without watering down either the heavy guitar tones or the weighty lyrics. Previously released “Stained Glass,” a collaboration with metalcore band Heal The Hurt, offers a powerful moment of catharsis for anyone finding restoration after church hurt. “Blood” offers a melodic take on sin and atonement.

“If you’re in the journey of trying to discover what is true and who is true, I would really invite you to listen with an open heart,” Tommy offers. “I hope you find encouragement and hope. I hope that some of the pain resonates with you so you don’t feel so alone. And I hope you’re able to look up and be found.”
