Giant Inflatable Ronald McDonald Wreaks Havoc on Neighborhood

Giant Inflatable Ronald McDonald Wreaks Havoc on Neighborhood

One of the more popular mascots in the world has to be Ronald McDonald from McDonald’s, but apparently he’s not beloved by everyone. Especially not some residents of an Arizona town where a giant inflatable Ronald popped up on a newly renovated McDonald’s location.

You might think that a giant Ronald McDonald inflatable on the roof of a McDonald’s would bring nothing but joy to those around them, but in this Arizona city that is certainly not the case. Find out why some residents were against the giant advertisement.

Residents Outraged by Giant Inflatable Ronald McDonald

For this story, we do what Jordan Davis does in “Tucson Too Late” — we ride out to Arizona. But not to check on a girl, to see what’s happening here at this particular McDonald’s.

This McDonald’s was recently fully renovated from the ground up and just reopened. Part of their reopening ceremony was apparently to have the largest inflatable Ronald McDonald they could get from corporate and tie that bad boy to the roof.

Well, this didn’t sit well with some neighboring residents who had a lot to say about the happy-faced clown invading their space.

The problem seems to be that residents think it brings down the value of their homes.

Clive Morgan, a local homeowner said, “Was just going home and then, pop, there it was. I thought this is crazy, would this set a precedent for all the drive-thrus and McDonald’s in town? We’d end up like a huge theme park.”

While that complaint has some Karen values to it, he does have a point in there. If all the local drive-thrus tried to compete and had huge inflatable mascots on their roofs as well, it could get wild.

Imagine a 20 foot Ronald McDonald going head-to-head with a neighboring 20 foot Burger King. Then Arby’s, with a giant roast beef sandwich, could enter the chat and all hell would break loose.

Paul Dias, the owner of the McDonald’s franchise in question said that he thought it was a great thing initially. People were coming in and complimenting the new look of the restaurant and the giant Ronald on the roof.

But, Dias did admit that not all of the feedback was positive. “There were a few people that thought it wasn’t appropriate for the area we’re in,” he said.

Apparently enough complaints came in, and then the news stations got involved, so Dias decided to remove the large inflatable from his roof.

McDonald’s has also been in the news as of late for their skyrocketing prices, and how they are trying to handle that.
