Garth Brooks Accused of Sexual Assault and Battery

A hair stylist and makeup artist who worked for Garth Brooks says he sexually assaulted and raped her on separate occasions in 2019.

Per a lawsuit obtained by CNN, the woman — identified as “Jane Roe” — filed a lawsuit in California on Thursday (Oct. 2). The news network also describes how Brooks allegedly tried to prevent her from filing the lawsuit with a preemptive complaint in Mississippi. He’s identified as “John Doe” in that matter.

There, he stated that Roe’s allegations are not true and indicated the allegations stemmed from his refusal to make Roe a salaried employee with medical benefits.

Two incidents are described in the lawsuit. The first — per chronology shared by TMZ — is alleged to have happened in early 2019. Roe says she was at Brooks’ home when he walked out of the shower naked, grabbed her hands and forced them onto his genitals while using sexual language.

The second incident is said to have happened in May of 2019. Roe says she was raped by Brooks in a hotel room during a work trip to Los Angeles, where Brooks was booked to tape a Grammy tribute performance.

She and the country star were the only two people to fly in a private plane to L.A., she claims, and once there, she says she was surprised to find Brooks had booked a hotel suite with just one bedroom. In the suite, Roe says he appeared in doorway naked, overpowered her and raped her.

TMZ includes graphic details of both alleged incidents. CNN adds that Roe claims Brooks would physically grope her and tell her sexual fantasies. It’s not clear when Roe ceased employment with Brooks.

Variety shares that Brooks’ preemptive suit was filed on Sept. 13, and he was seeking an injunction to block her from “extortionate conduct.” Additionally, the outlet states that she began working for Brooks’ wife Trisha Yearwood in 1999 and Brooks in 2017.

Jane Roe is represented by Douglas Wigdor.
