Florida Gators Football Fans Are Pretty Mad at Morgan Wallen

Could Morgan Wallen be to blame for injuries in a football game? That is the allegation from some fans.

You’ll need to go back to late September, when Wallen packed Neyland Stadium — home of the Tennessee Volunteers football team — for a concert, performing to more than 156,000 people over two nights.

Of course, that meant thousands of people were on the floor, or the field. It’s not uncommon that a concert can do some serious damage to a playing surface — Luke Bryan took some heat earlier this year after his concert left the outfield of the Atlanta Braves Truist Park looking worse for wear.

But this one seems a little more serious.

The playing surface for the Volunteers and the Florida Gators looked fine. In fact, it looked perfect. That’s because the entire playing surface was replaced following the Wallen show — even Tennessee Volunteers assistant AD thought the field looked great:

The new grass had only been down for just over two weeks when the two rivals met up, and sadly, two players saw their season end with non-contact injuries: Tennessee linebacker Kennan Pili and Florida Gator quarterback Graham Mertz were both hurt.

For Mertz, that is the end to his college career, as he will be out of eligibility next year.

Florida fans are none too pleased with the Vols:

No word on whether or not Tennessee plans to address any concerns about the field, but from the outside looking in, this seems like some bad luck, with fans just wanting someone to blame.

Not that the fans of the Florida-Tennessee rivalry needed any more reasons to hate each other!
