Dylan Marlowe’s Fight With His Wife Became a Country Boy Anthem

Dylan Marlowe’s Fight With His Wife Became a Country Boy Anthem

Country newcomer Dylan Marlowe just released his debut album, Mid-Twenties Crisis, and it features a country boy anthem called “Deer on the Wall.”

The song is also super personal, and there’s a funny story behind it.

Marlowe is newly-married to wife Natalie Barber, and “Deer on the Wall” was inspired by a big argument that they had awhile back.

During a guest spot on Taste of Country Nights: On Demand Marlowe spilled the truth.

“It was an argument we had about hanging a deer on the wall,” he says.

“When we were engaged, I was living in the house and she hadn’t moved in yet, because her lease was still going. I just lived there by myself and I just took it upon myself to start decorating …”

You know where this is going. Men in your mid-twenties, if you find yourself decorating for your marital home without your bride’s input, just stop right where you are — don’t hang that deer head.

“She was like, ‘Can you just wait to hang it so I can see what furniture needs to go under it?'” Marlowe recalls his wife saying. “And I was like ‘look, you can do whatever you want to this house, but the deer is not going anywhere.'”

Uh-oh.

He realized right then that it was a song title and story worth writing. It’s not clear who won the argument, or what Natalie thinks of the song.

Marlowe’s current radio hit is “Boys Back Home” with another Dylan, Dylan Scott.
