Dolly Parton has pledged $2 million to help people in need after Hurricane Helene ripped through the southeastern United States last week.

In a press conference on Friday (Oct. 4), Parton shared that she will be personally donating $1 million from her bank account.

The businesses she owns, including the Dollywood Foundation, are matching her contribution with another $1 million. All of the money will go to the Mountain Ways Foundation to help those affected by the flooding in her native east Tennessee.

“I really wish we were all together for another reason, but we all have seen the devastation,” she tells the crowd in video taken Friday (watch below). “I mean, who knew in our little part of the country here, where I was born and raised just right down the road that we would have this kind of devastation.”

“I look around and I think, these are my mountains, these are my valleys, these are my rivers flowing like a stream. These are my people,” she continues.

“This is my home.”

Dolly Parton Relates Hurricane Helene to “Jolene”

Trying to keep things lighthearted, Parton parodied her song “Jolene” and inserted “Helene” into the lyrics instead.

“Helene, Helene, Helene, Helene / You came in her and broke us all apart / Helene, Helene, Helene, Helene / But we’re all here to mend these broken hearts,” she riffs.

WJHL in Newport, Tenn., reports that Mountain Ways will use the funds to provide financial relief for flood victims in addition to distributing food, water and supplies.
