Michael J, or “MJ” to his cohorts, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and started his radio career when classic rock was known as…well, rock! “What an amazing experience to grow up hearing what were the local musicians play – like Grateful Dead, Santana, Jefferson Airplane and so many others. And, these guys were my hometown bands!” MJ got his radio start training at the legendary rock station KOME, San Jose. Having worked in the San Francisco, Reno, Sacramento and Nashville markets, MJ says his career was highlighted in Gainesville Florida which was home to such greats as Tom Petty, Don Felder and Stephen Stills. He was Program Director and morning guy at WRRX, 97X – where he formatted, what he called “a unique classic rocker” combining the Haight Ashbury sound, with staples from Southern and British Rock into THE Classic Rock station of his dreams. “I love Classic Rock. It has a contagious vibe that affects and has influenced generations of listeners and it’s pretty awesome we have the opportunity to continue that tradition at Classic Rock Planet.” Catch Michael J, mornings on The Planet.
