Carrie Underwood Just Sang Her ‘SNF’ Anthem Live for First Time

Carrie Underwood surprised the crowd with an NFL classic when she belted out NBC’s Sunday Night Football theme song live for the first time at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The moment came during her performance on a fitting day, Sunday (Aug. 4), as she took part in the Enshrinement Week festivities.

The audience happily sang along to “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” as Underwood gave a pre-game-worthy performance. According to Philip Fisher, who posted the original video, she opened her set with the song.

What Is the Sunday Night Football Theme Song?

In 2006, Pink was selected to record a pre-game theme song for NBC’s Sunday night NFL game. She elected to rework Joan Jett’s 1988 classic “I Hate Myself for Loving You” into a more football-friendly version — she recorded the song and a video to play ahead of the networks Sunday programming.

Then, in 2007, Faith Hill took over and put her own spin on the iconic track — a role she would fill for six seasons.

Enter Underwood, who has now carried the ball since 2013. Although she deviated from the well-recognized song, she has since returned to “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” which she used most recently in 2023.

Will Carrie Underwood Sing the Sunday Night Football Theme in 2024?

Although Underwood has reigned over Sunday Night Football for more than a decade, her return for the 2024 season has not been confirmed. However, there have been rumors online that the country singer has been filming a new intro video in between her Reflection residency shows in Las Vegas.

It was in August 2023 that she was announced as the SNF opening entertainment, so an announcement could be coming soon. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week also serves as a kickoff to the upcoming season, so being selected to perform at the event could be a good sign of Underwood’s return.
