Landman Season 2, Episode 10 began airing on Sunday (Jan. 18), and the second season finale delivered death, legal peril for a main character and a new beginning that will change the course of the entire show.
Who Dies in the Landman Season 2 Finale?
As the end of Episode 9 foreshadowed, the man who attacked Ariana (Paulina Chavez) dies as a result of the injuries he sustained when Cooper (Jacob Lofland) pulled him off and beat him.
That results in detectives questioning Cooper, but without even telling him that the man has died. They show him that the security footage of the incident shows him hitting the man in the face 17 times — well past what would ordinarily constitute defense of others.
However, they meet their match and then some when Rebecca (Kayla Wallace) sails in at Ariana’s request, bringing up the officers’ own deadly use of force and telling them that she will use their own prosecution against them to bankrupt the county, as well as each of them individually in class action lawsuits on behalf of those families.

On top of that, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) tells them that he’s not above getting the local media involved to spin public sympathy for the 22-year-old widow who’s been attacked, rather than the undeserving man who attacked her.
And just like that, the potential charges go away, though Cooper and Ariana will both still be left to struggle with the aftermath in different ways.
What Happens to Tommy on Landman Season 2, Episode 10?
Tommy Norris is firmly back in his main role as the Fixer of All Problems as Season 2 comes to a close in an episode cryptically titled “Tragedy and Flies” — no matter how he has to do it.
He starts the finale newly unemployed, but he has the idea of getting an investor to buy Cooper’s oil leases from M-Tex so they can start their own company.
There’s just one small problem: The existing contracts place any such deal in a legal gray area that legitimate investors are unable to touch without significant exposure.

Consequently, Tommy — almost inevitably, in a scenario that Landman creator Taylor Sheridan has been building toward all season — ends up going back to Gallino (Andy Garcia) and resurrecting their deal, with Gallino buying Cooper’s leases from M-Tex and kicking in additional money to fund more drilling.
It’s a major win for Tommy — but it also means he’s now in business with a shady player in a drug cartel, who wastes no time in reminding him of the consequences of losing his investment.
What Happens With Angela and Ainsley on Landman Season 2, Episode 10?
Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) finds that cheerleading camp at the college level is much more challenging than she anticipated, but she also finds an unexpected ally in her former roommate, who is one of the training consultants.
After Ainsley defends her former roommate — who goes by They/Them pronouns — against mockery, they begin to develop a better understanding of each other, and Ainsley decides to give dorm life another chance.
That leads Angela (Ali Larter) to realize that her daughter really is grown up and about to go her own way — but instead of spiraling, she draws in closer to Tommy and their family, as he uncharacteristically assures her that everyone is going to be fine.
How Does Landman Season 2 End?
The season ends on a surprisingly upbeat note after an episode that sees Tommy fighting for his professional life and his son’s freedom, as well as narrowly avoiding serious injury or death in a multi-car accident that takes place right after he challenges God to do His worst.
As Season 2 comes to an end, Tommy has formed a new oil company from the ashes of the former situation, with Cooper as President, Tommy as Senior Vice President, Nate (Colm Feore) as Treasurer, Rebecca as CEO and chief counsel, Dale (James Jordan) in charge of exploration, TL (Sam Elliott) in charge of drilling and Boss (Mustafa Speaks) running the crew, who will all have profit participation.

The end of the episode is another unexpectedly sweet moment, with Tommy reflecting to Angela, “The time is coming when tragedy is gonna dominate our days. But not today. Today we win.”
