Singer-songwriter Todd Snider is receiving extensive treatment after doctors discovered he’d been “quietly suffering from an undiagnosed case of walking pneumonia,” according to a note from family and friends.
The note described Snider’s condition as “complicated,” adding, “Right now we’re asking everyone who loves Todd to hold him in your thoughts in whatever way feels right to you. Say a prayer, light a candle, roll one up, send strength, or just keep him close in your heart. You’ve carried him through so much over the years, and he needs that from all of us now more than ever.”
Snider’s health took a turn for the worse after he returned to Tennessee last week following a brief and troubling few days on the road. According to the note, Snider “began having trouble breathing” and was taken to a hospital in Hendersonville, Tennessee. After he was diagnosed with walking pneumonia, he was “transferred for additional treatment,” though the note did not specify where.
“His care team and those closest to him are by his side and doing everything they can,” the the note said. It concluded: “We’ll share more when there is more to tell. Thank you for surrounding him with so much love, support, and compassion.”
Earlier this month, Snider put his tour on hold after allegedly being assaulted outside a hotel in Salt Lake City, and then arrested for allegedly causing a disturbance at a local hospital. Prior to his scheduled Nov. 1 show in South Salt Lake — just the second date on his tour — Snider “sustained severe injuries” after the alleged assault outside his hotel, according to his team. (The South Salt Lake City police confirmed the they received report of an alleged assault, but “limited information was obtained.”)

Snider was then taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and discharged by the staff. But according to a Salt Lake City PD spokesperson, Snider “initially refused to leave” the hospital. While he did leave, Snider allegedly “returned sometime later and began making threats to assault staff members.” Snider was booked on charges of disorderly conduct, threat of violence, and trespassing; he was eventually released and it does not appear that he’s been formally charged yet.
Snider released his most recent album, High, Lonesome and Then Some in October.
