This week, Forrest Frank made waves on social media for calling out fellow artists Cory Asbury & Matthew West on their satire videos based on his injury and recovery. Last month, Forrest Frank had a skateboarding accident, which resulted in him breaking his back. Miraculously, Forrest reported his back was fully healed in only two weeks. During his recovery, he shared videos of himself in recovery making songs. Two of these songs, “God’s Got My Back” and “Lemonade,” went viral, the latter one reaching the no. 1 spot on iTunes across all genres. Following this, both Cory Asbury and Matthew West released humorous videos of themselves in Forrest’s recovery position, creating upbeat parody songs; Matthew’s on being stung by a bee and Cory’s on recovering from a vasectomy.

Following this, Forrest posted a video reacting to Cory’s video, where he shared that these videos were not sitting right with him, of people seeming to make light of the “most traumatic event” he and his wife have been through. Despite the calling out, Forrest invited Corey to collaborate with him on an upcoming song he teased titled “Misunderstood.” In response to this, Cory shared that though he uses humor often, he mistakenly can go too far and publicly apologized to Forrest. He then agreed to collaborate with him and shared a verse he had written for the song.

Both Cory and Forrest have continued posting videos, bringing this conversation to their audiences to show what growth and healing can look like between others with disagreement in the body of Christ through sharing their stories.

Matthew West also deleted his video and later posted a video explaining that Forrest had reached out to him personally, asking him to take it down. Matthew shared that, although he has written several humorous songs in the past, he is usually the butt of the joke, whereas this time he wasn’t and understood the hurt Forrest experienced from his video. Matthew expressed gratitude for Forrest handling it in a godly manner, as well as Forrest, who commented below Matthew’s video and thanked him likewise for the same. Matthew did share that, though Forrest had invited him to collaborate on a song, Matthew declined, saying he “didn’t feel peace with it,” but was looking forward to Forrest’s upcoming song with Cory.

Christian comedian Shama Mrema, well known for his hot takes on the Christian music industry, also released a video and song poking fun at the situation called “Collarbone.” He defended his take, calling it healthy satire and choosing to keep the song on all platforms as of writing.
