Ella Langley says she has been facing ongoing pressure to enhance her vocal cords while performing live by using auto-tune.

She won’t do it, and her mind won’t change, she insists.

Langley was a guest on the American radio program The Bobby Bones Show, where she said talked about artists who use auto-tune because of modern pressures to sound flawless.

“I had an artist come up to me last year and he was watching my show, and he was like, ‘Got a great show,'” she recalls.

“He’s like, ‘Well, one day when you start running tune and things on your show …’ I was like, ‘I’m not going to do that,'” Langley continues.

“He’s like, ‘Yes, you will. Everyone does that. You’re going to do that.’ And I was like, ‘No, I’m not.'”

Auto-tune can help singers filter their voice to ensure they’re on key while performing live, but Langley isn’t interested in using props.

As for why she thinks other artists use auto-tune?

“I think what’s so hard about that too, is everything’s so perfect that you see now every picture’s been edited, every song has auto-tune, not only on vocals, but most of the instruments,” the “You Look Like You Love Me” singer explains.

“Everything’s so perfect presented to you that live music is almost like, ‘Oh God, that sounds like a live vocal?’ And people are getting less and less familiar with what a live vocal sound like.”
