Morgan Wallen‘s new song “Love Somebody” is his most pop-friendly radio single to date. The breezy breakup song builds off of “7 Summers” from 2020.

Lyrically, “Love Somebody” has a bit more bite and covers more territory. The first verse finds the singer snapping back at a broader community with the Will Smith-esque “Can’t keep my name out they mouth” line.

Somehow the track still breathes — an instrumental break is certainly unexpected — and despite (potential) pop intentions, it relies on the cry of steel guitar throughout the chorus.

Wallen and Post Malone have mastered a progressive brand of country music that lives right on the edge of a sound sure to anger purists.

“Love Somebody” doesn’t explore any new lyrical territory — it remains to be seen if Wallen can sing about heartbreak too much — but the packaging is fresh and updated.
