Ree Drummond shared a slideshow of her love story through the years on Saturday (Sept. 21), celebrating 28 years of marriage to her husband Ladd.

“28 years,” she began the caption of her post.

Starting with pictures from their wedding — including one shot of the bride and groom at the altar — Drummond’s post takes fans through all the highlights of their life together. Multiple travel shots and vacations made the highlights reel, but perhaps the sweetest shots are of the couple together at their ranch.

“If you make it to the last photo, you’ll see a couple of people who are…OK, yes, slightly exhausted,” Drummond writes, “but oh so grateful we found each other almost three decades ago.

“It has been a roller coaster, a journey, an odyssey, and a blast. Not to mention fast! How can it be our 28th anniversary when we’re only 32?” she joked. “I love you Ladd. And the kids. OMG, what if we hadn’t met?”

Drummond and her husband tied the knot on Sept. 21, 1996. They met in a chance encounter at a bar, she told The Pioneer Woman magazine in 2021. At the time, a young Drummond was in between moves from Los Angeles to Chicago, and made a stop in her hometown of Bartlesville, Okla. in between the two cities. She went out for a drink with some childhood friends, and there, she ran into Ladd and had an “instant connection,” she describes.

At the outset, their romance seemed improbable — she had big-city dreams, and he was a cattle rancher — and he didn’t call her for four months until after their initial meeting. But when he finally did, when she was back home for her brother’s wedding, their relationship quickly picked up steam: Ladd told her he loved her just two weeks after their first official date.

Ladd has made frequent appearances on his wife’s Food Network show over the years, as have the five children they share. Now empty-nesters, they’ve moved into an exciting new chapter of their life together: Their oldest child, daughter Alex Drummond, is currently expecting her first baby.
