Navy Commander Relieved After Photo Shows Him Firing Rifle Wrong

Some odd news coming out of United States Navy: Cameron Yaste was the commanding officer of the USS John McCain, but he isn’t anymore.

A photo has surfaced from four months ago, showing Yaste holding a rifle with the scope backwards, and it’s drawing a lot of attention.

Here is where is starts to get into some murky waters:

According to the outlet Stars and Stripes, the U.S. Marine Corp, after seeing the viral image, took a dig at the Navy, sharing a photo on social media of a Marine firing a weapon aboard the USS Boxer. The caption read: “Clear Sight Picture.”

This turned into a mom and dad sort of argument between the Navy and the Marines that happened to play out on a global platform.

“Thank you for pointing out our rifle scope error in the previous post, picture has been removed until EMI (extra military instruction) is completed,” the Navy writes in response.

A cheeky dig have led to some serious repercussions, at least for the commanding officer: Yaste was immediately relieved of duty and replaced.

Per NPR, he’s been pulled from his post “due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command the guided-missile destroyer.”

There is no word on what’s next for Yaste regarding if he will be discharged in full.
