Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to get the DeLorean up to 88mph and go back in time to the late 1980s and the 1990s.

Having a quarter, because that’s all it costed back then, and standing in front of a soda machine was a kid’s dream back then. It was difficult to make a choice, however, as there were some really banging sodas back then.

Sprite Competitor Slice Making a Comeback After Two Decades

Of course we all know of the Pepsi and Coca-Cola war that has been going on for ages, but within that are some of the company’s other flavors of soda as well.

Take Sprite, for example, back in the 1980s and 1990s, Sprite had some fierce competition. Sprite is owned by Coca-Cola and it’s main competition, Slice, was owned by Pepsi.

Slice came into the picture in the 1980s, about 20-plus years into Sprite’s run. Slice became kind of cult-like and expanded into different flavors, with their main lemon-lime offering taking on Sprite head on.

Then, even with its strong following, in the mid 2000s Pepsi decided to discontinue Slice and introduce Sierra Mist. Sierra Mist was recently replaced by Starry, a lemon-lime flavored soda.

Now, after more than 20 years off the market, Slice is coming back. A company called Suja Life has purchased the rights to the name and likeness of Slice. The taste is promised to rival the classic Slice taste but with healthier, lower calorie ingredients that actually promote some gut health.

Only time will tell if Slice’s resurgence will catch on or not. It seems as if we are clamoring for a taste of our pasts though, and brands are picking up on that.
