Toby Keith is so missed.
An NBC tribute concert that aired this week, Toby Keith: American Icon, honored the star’s contributions to music and culture, with a number of big-name stars singing Keith’s hits for good causes.
Next, he’ll be remembered by his home state of Oklahoma and one of his favorite football teams, the University of Oklahoma Sooners.
How the OU Sooners Are Paying Tribute to Toby Keith
Keith was a diehard Sooners fan, and he wasn’t shy about telling everyone — OU even gave him an honorary posthumous degree in April!
Now, with the first college football season since the country music icon’s death in February, OU will go another mile for the “Red Solo Cup” singer. The University of Oklahoma says a special tribute to Keith will take place at each and every home game this season.
After the third quarter is complete, there will be a huge tribute singalong to Keith. But that’s not all:
The Sooners’ Executive Associate Athletics Director, Leah Beasley, tells the Oklahoman that the tribute is “going to involve not only music, but it’s going to involve a video portion to work in with the music.”
Beasley knows fans in the stands will be “into it,” noting: “It’s not going to be something that we’re going to have to test.”
It hasn’t been shared which of Toby Keith’s songs they’ll use for the tribute, but there are certainly a lot to choose from: Keith released more than 40 Top 10 hits during his musical career.
Keith died on Feb. 5, 2024, after a battle with stomach cancer. He was 62.
