Faith Hill disappeared without warning from social media this week, deactivating her Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages.

Fans began noticing her absence early this week, and they’ve got some theories.

Specifically, some fans wondered if the social media wipe might mean new music around the corner. That would be a big deal for country fans, who haven’t gotten a full new solo album from Hill (except for a Christmas album) since 2005.

Before we dig into the fan theories about what exactly Hill might be planning, let’s take a look back at the singer’s career to date, and what she’s been up to in recent years.

• Faith Hill rose to fame in the mid-1990s.
• Her first two albums, 1993’s Take Me as I Am and 1995’s It Matters to Me, both produced No. 1 country radio singles, catapulting her into the center of country’s mainstream.
• As the ’90s continued, Hill began to see significant crossover pop success with albums like Faith and Breathe. Her 1999 single, “This Kiss,” was a hit on the pop and adult contemporary charts as well as on country charts.

Hill’s 2005 album Fireflies produced her ninth (and to date, final) solo No. 1 song with “Mississippi Girl,” but after that album cycle, her solo career quieted down significantly. She put out a Christmas album called Joy to the World in 2008 and a joint album called The Rest of Our Life with her husband Tim McGraw in 2017.

Since then, Hill has toured with McGraw, and she also dug into acting roles, both solo and alongside her country star husband. She and McGraw co-starred in 1883, a Yellowstone prequel, in 2021 and 2022.

Why Do Fans Think Faith Hill Deactivated Social Media?

Over the years, Hill has intermittently hinted that she might return to music, so it makes sense that some are speculating she’s got new songs or an album coming.

In fact, around 2009 or 2010, Hill was beginning a push to release a project called Illusion, and she even released songs like “Come Home” and “American Heart.” But those songs flagged at country radio, in part because they marked a pivot from the pop-country Faith fans know and love, towards a more soulful direction.

The project fizzled out, and Hill left Warner Music Nashville, then signed with Sony, whose website currently still lists her on their artist roster. It’s clear she’s been wanting to release new music, but it’s never quite worked out in the past.

Still, fans are speculating that that could all be about to change.

But new music isn’t the only thing that Hill could potentially be teasing. Her Breathe album – which, containing songs like “Breathe,” “The Way You Love Me” and “Let’s Make Love,” is arguably her most essential release — turns 25 years old in November.

Could that anniversary warrant a reissue or special tour? Some fans think so. For now, they’ll just have to wait to see what the singer’s got up her sleeve.

Of course, her departure from social media could just be the result of wanting to take a break — she certainly wouldn’t be the first artist to deactivate their account for personal reasons.
