Camping World Location Ordered to Take Down American Flag

Camping World Location Ordered to Take Down American Flag

If you have never been to a Camping World megastore, you quite possibly have noticed one on the side of the highway at some point.

They are known for their large one-of-a-kind buildings, and their giant American flags that fly out front of each location.

Camping World Location Ordered to Take Down American Flag

In a move that seems backward, a Camping World location in California is under fire for something that most would agree it shouldn’t be: Flying an American flag.

Camping World RV Sales in San Joaquin County, Calif. — like many of the company’s other 200+ locations — flies a giant American flag over its grounds.

But, that stopped in April when the county ordered the dealership to remove the flag, citing safety reasons and a lack of permission.

The county made a statement about the order to remove the American flag, saying, “Camping World’s flagpole was installed with neither a building permit nor planning approval, therefore they are in conversation with the code enforcement division.”

How in the World Can Flying an American Flag Be Dangerous?

The county feels the flagpole could be dangerous because of its closeness to property lines and the highway.

Although the location originally removed the flag in April, after months of back-and-forth with the county, and still no resolution, Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis has ordered the flag to be reinstalled at the location on Monday, Aug. 12.

Lemonis backed his decision with an explanation of his own.

“If we felt like we were putting people in danger or causing any issues with air traffic, which would absolutely not be OK, then I wouldn’t do it.”

Lemonis also told local new outlet, Fox 40, “It’s symbolism about how we feel about this country. We have a lot of veterans who work for us, and a lot of veterans who shop with us.”

The county then issued a statement in return.

“The issue has been solely with the height of the flagpole. CDD is working closely with Camping World to issue the appropriate permit so the flagpole can remain safely and legally pursuant to state and county law.”

The moral of the story is: Don’t mess with Old Glory, or you’ll get the good ole’ boot in your a–, like Toby Keith once said.
