82-Year-Old McDonald’s Employee + Veteran Can’t Afford To Retire

82-Year-Old McDonald’s Employee + Veteran Can’t Afford To Retire

For most Americans, the average age of retirement is 62. That’s when some government benefits start to kick in to help supplement the lack of income. But for one 82-year-old veteran who works at a McDonald’s, retirement hasn’t been an option.

It costs more and more to retire nowadays, almost half of Americans just can’t afford it, or they think they can and then have to go back to work when the money runs out.

Edward Eubanks has worked at a McDonald’s in Las Vegas since 2009.

Eubanks is a Vietnam War veteran who then spent decades working at the Nevada National Security Site.

For the last 15 years, he’s worked at McDonald’s, helping to restock the soda station items and keeping the restaurant clean.

He makes people smile when they see him — he wears goofy hats and tries to make a difference in people’s lives when they visit the fast-food giant. The owner/operators of the location that Eubanks works at say they are grateful to have Eubanks on their team in a statement to local news station KSNV.

The one thing that kind of sours this is the fact that Eubanks served our country during war, and has worked for decades, both prior to that and after that, and has to continue working just to pay the bills.

Don’t feel bad if you’re on the same track as Eubanks, according to AARP about one in four seniors have no retirement savings.

There is a silver lining though. Once this story aired on the local news, a GoFundMe was set up to help Eubanks retire. At the time of publishing, the GoFundMe had upwards of $23,000.
