Jelly Roll Officially Releases New Single ‘Liar’ With Music Video

The track will appear on the country star’s next album, expected to arrive later this year

Jelly Roll has finally dropped his new song “Liar,” pairing the track with an emotionally bracing video in which he confronts one of his biggest adversaries — himself.

The song finds Jelly Roll staring down the voice in his head incessantly spouting off doubts and insecurities, before delivering a final blow on the chorus: “You ain’t nothin’ but a liar/Yeah, I walk right out the fire/Yeah, you try to keep me down/Try to put me underground/But I’m only going higher.” In the video, Jelly Roll performs the song in a dark, broken-down room, facing himself in the mirror when he finally gets to the song’s chorus.

The country star has been teasing “Liar” for months now, first debuting it live all the way back in April at the Grand Ole Opry. He performed the song again in May at the 2024 ACM Awards, and has occasionally tossed it into his live sets this summer.

“Liar” is expected to appear on Jelly Roll’s next album, which is slated to arrive later this year, though neither a title nor release date have been announced. Back in June, he  dropped the album’s first official offering, “I Am Not Okay,” which he’d also teased a few times live, performing it on the season finale of The Voice, as well as at the ACM Awards.

While “Liar” and “I Am Not Okay” are Jelly Roll’s first two solo songs of the year, he has released a couple of collaborations as well, including “Best for Me” with Joyner Lucas, and “All My Life” with Falling in Reverse. Jelly Roll also has some collaborations with Kane Brown in the works, and he’s slated to appear on Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion, out later this month.

So far, Jelly Roll has spent most of the summer playing scattered festival dates, but he’s set to officially kick off his massive Beautifully Broken tour later this month. The run begins Aug. 27 in Salt Lake City and wraps Nov. 23 in Jacksonville, Florida.
