Stars of HGTV’s ‘Good Bones’ Settle Their Beef + Teaming Up Again

For HGTV‘s show Good Bones, it looked like its successful eight season run was done and coming to an end.

Good Bones had an emotional finale to Season 8 in October 2023, and all reports pointed to that being the end of the series for a plethora of reasons. But is the show really done for good?

Stars of HGTV’s Good Bones Settle Their Beef

One could say that part of the reason Good Bones was so successful for so long was that it was a whole family experience. Mother and daughter duo, Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak, are the main characters, and Mina’s brother, Tad, is also a mainstay on the show.

At the end of Season 8, there were some pretty emotional episodes happening, and you could tell something was a little different. There was a pretty big beef between mother, daughter and son behind the scenes, but only a few could tell from watching the show.

“I was like, ‘I wonder if anyone’s going to be able to tell,’ and of course, you can’t because that’s the idea.”Starsiak tole People in 2023. “People… that’s not why they’re tuning in to watch Good Bones. That’s not what they want.”

Starsiak detailed the beef that was happening on her podcast, called “Mina AF.”

“My mom and I aren’t in a great place. My brother Tad and I aren’t in a great place, it’s complicated without even being complicated,” the Good Bones star said. “We don’t really engage much, and the last engagement wasn’t super positive, and that was maybe a year ago.”

Fast forward to July of 2024. HGTV made a shocking announcement that Good Bones would be returning for a limited season. It seems that sometime between October 2023 and today, the beef between mother, daughter and son has been terminated to some extent.

According to the press release from HGTV, “The newest season of HGTV’s hit series Good Bones will follow Mina Starsiak Hawk and her mom Karen E. Laine as their lives evolve past their time renovating homes in Indianapolis.”

The press release further detailed Season 9’s upcoming journey. “Mina will purchase a very dated but ‘groovy’ lake house just north of Indy and give it much needed cosmetic updates to create the peaceful family getaway of her dreams.”

“Karen will set off on a new adventure in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she’ll risk her retirement nest egg on a bungalow that requires more work than anticipated to become a colorful beachy oasis. Their new beginnings will play out across a limited three-week run.”

According to Today, Starsiak said on her podcast in June of 2024 that she would return to the show under the condition that the “balance was healthier.”
