Kelly Clarkson’s Ex-Husband Fires Back at Her New Lawsuit

Kelly Clarkson’s Ex-Husband Fires Back at Her New Lawsuit

Kelly Clarkson‘s ex-husband, talent manager Brandon Blackstock, has responded to her latest legal filing, asking a California judge to dismiss Clarkson’s claim that he acted improperly as her manager during their marriage.

People has obtained court documents that Blackstock filed on Monday (April 15), asking a judge to dismiss Clarkson’s most recent legal filing from March of 2024. Clarkson asked the court to find that Blackstock and the agency run by his father — Clarkson’s former father-in-law, big-time Nashville talent manager Narvel Blackstock of Starstruck Entertainment — had violated labor laws all the way back to 2007.

  • Clarkson alleges Blackstock charged her improperly for deals with The Voice, Wayfair, Norwegian Cruise Line and the Billboard Music Awards.
  • She’s asking for the return of “any and all commissions, fees, profits, advances, producing fees or other monies” she paid on those deals.
  • In November of 2023, a California labor commissioner ordered Blackstock to repay $2.6 million in commissions and fees because he had overstepped the bounds of his job. Blackstock is appealing.

Blackstock’s new filing refutes “each and every allegation” in Clarkson’s legal complaint. He claims her suit lacks jurisdiction because she did not file a notice of appeal within 10 days after the labor commissioner’s ruling.

He also says the money he collected from those commissions was already paid into his and Clarkson’s joint assets that were divided up as part of their divorce, and that she has failed to “state facts sufficient to constitute a cause of action against Starstruck.”

Clarkson and Blackstock wed in 2013, and she filed for divorce in 2020. They settled the divorce in 2022 after legal battles over property, child support and Blackstock’s challenge to their prenuptial agreement.

Clarkson received primary custody of the couple’s two children and a ranch in Wyoming that Blackstock contested. The pop superstar and TV personality paid Blackstock a settlement of $1.3 million, and the court also ordered Clarkson to pay $45,000 per month in child support, as well as $115,000 per month in spousal support that was set to end in January in 2024.
