Jelly Roll took home the biggest award of the night, Video of the Year, at the 2024 CMT Music Awards on Sunday (April 7).
It was his first win in the category.
“Billy Bob Thornton just gave me my third trophy of the night, y’all!” he yelled, hoisting his trophy in the air.
He then launched into a laundry list of all of the important people who helped him get to this point in her career, before addressing his wife, Bunnie Xo.
“My beautiful wife, Miss Bunnie DeFord,” he said. “I am blessed to have you as a best friend. I am blessed to have you as a partner. You find beauty in broken things and I love you.”
Who Was Nominated for 2024 CMT Music Awards Video of the Year?
Jelly Roll’s big win came over some big competition: Others nominated in the category were Ashley McBryde’s “Light on in the Kitchen,” Cody Johnson with “The Painter,” Hardy’s “Truck Bed,” Kelsea Ballerini for “If You Go Down (I’m Going Down Too)” and Lainey Wilson’s “Watermelon Moonshine.”
The “Halfway to Hell” singer was also in a five-way tie for the most nominations at the 2024 show, with three. Jelly was up for Male Video of the Year and Performance of the Year for his live rendition of “Need a Favor” at the 2023 CMT Music Awards.
He won both of those awards, going three for three on the night.
The music video for Jelly Roll’s No. 1 “Need a Favor” hit is as heavy as the song itself. The video tells the story of a man whose young loved one is in the hospital. As he grapples with the potential of losing this child, he finds himself praying for a miracle and even taking his prayers down to the church.
The CMT Music Awards were held live in Austin, Texas on Sunday, April 7.
