Johnny Cash‘s brother, musician Tommy Cash, has died. According to a statement from the Johnny Cash Museum, the singer died on Friday (Sept. 13) at the age of 84.
“Shannon and I lost a very, very dear friend last evening,” the museum’s founder, Bill Miller, says via a representative. “I knew him for over 50 years. Tommy Cash was a loyal supporter of the Johnny Cash Museum and a very beloved member of our extended family as well as a highly respected member of the music industry. This great man will be deeply missed by his friends and many loyal fans around the world. Please keep Tommy’s beloved wife, Marcy and his family in your prayers.”
Born in Dyess, Ark., on April 5, 1940, Tommy Cash joined the Army and worked as a DJ for the Armed Forces Radio Network after graduating high school.
That led to a musical career of his own, beginning with a stint playing with Hank Williams Jr. before signing a record deal in 1965.
Cash released a song titled “Six White Horses” via Epic Records in 1969, dedicated to John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
His chart hits included “Rise and Shine” and “One Song Away.” Cash performed all over the world in his career, and he served as an ambassador for the Cash family legacy after Johnny Cash’s death in 2003.
Tommy Cash’s cause of death has not been released. Funeral details are not yet available.

A stunning rural estate in California that once belonged to Johnny Cash has sold for $1.85 million dollars. Pictures of the 5-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom, 4,500-square-foot historic property show unique wood accents throughout the house, a paneled music room where Cash used to write songs, his-and-hers master suites and more.
The carefully maintained grounds also include a pool, a covered outdoor kitchen and a sitting area with a firepit among the other amenities of the fine home, which Cash designed and built in 1961.
