It’s no secret that everyone can experience a little road rage. Sometimes, even public service employees, like the mayor, get upset when they’re behind the wheel.

For this odd but compelling story, we head to the beautiful beach-town of Naples, Florida, where the mayor of that town is in some hot water after taking a road rage incident too far.

Mayor of Florida Beach Town Arrested for DUI After Road Rage Incident

The mayor of Naples, Florida, Teresa Heitmann, allegedly drove drunk, got into a road rage incident, followed that car to their home, ran into their mailbox, then parked on their lawn.

While that sounds like the lyrics to a country song, it’s not yet been written, because it just happened in real life.

Heitmann has been accused of one count of driving under the influence with an unlawful blood alcohol level of 0.15 or higher, according to Collier County Sheriff’s Office records.

Since it’s Florida, their laws allow for mugshots and 911 calls to be released rather quickly. WTVJ, Miami, got a hold of the 911 call from the couple that was being followed home by the drunken mayor.

“Yeah, umm, I think the mayor is drunk and she just, she just literally — oh, she just drove over our mailbox,” the man can be heard saying in 911 audio.

Even the 911 dispatcher seemed taken back, saying, “The mayor did?”

That same news station also got the bodycam footage from the arriving officer on the scene. This is crazy how fast the situation got weird.

The officer is heard saying, “Mrs. Mayor, will you come on over for me right here?” The mayor responded, “No, don’t call me mayor.” The officer then apologizes and says OK.

Then the mayor kept saying, “I am Teresa Heitmann right now, I am not the mayor.”

Allegedly the mayor told police the couple cut her off in traffic. She apparently also told police that she only had a glass of wine before performing a field sobriety test, according to an NBC news affiliate in Miami.

This kind of shook up the small city of Naples. The city manager told WTVJ, “City employees were saddened to learn about the incident involving the mayor. We know this is a difficult time for Mayor Heitmann and will give her the space she needs.”

Driving while intoxicated is not good, especially when you road rage and run into people’s mailbox while threatening them, and especially when you’re the city’s mayor.

The mayor has since responded publicly about the incident, saying that she is “profoundly sorry.”
