Here Are the Lyrics to Megan Moroney’s ‘Am I Okay?’

Megan Moroney has made her name with turbulent love songs, so when she finally hits on a relationship worth celebrating, even she has to double-check herself.

That’s the story line between “Am I Okay?,” the title track of her most recent album and her newest submission to country radio. Moroney checks her pulse, assesses her surroundings and finally names the strange new feeling that’s throwing her off: It’s healthy romantic love.

When you’ve been through the ringer with liars, cheaters and frauds — which Moroney has, at least in her songs — it’s hard to trust things when a relationship seems too good to be true.

But “Am I Okay?” has a poppy, tempo-friendly beat, suggesting that she’s ready to take a leap of faith with a new partner.

This song marks the first single Moroney’s sent to radio since “I’m Not Pretty,” and it’s the lead single off her sophomore album, Am I Okay? That project came out in the middle of last month and earned Moroney her first-ever Top 10 spot on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, coming in at No. 9.

Megan Moroney, “Am I Okay?” Lyrics:

I checked my pulse and my heart’s still beatin’ / Exhale, I think I’m still breathin’ / Both feet on the ground but something’s changed / I’ve been playin’ less black keys, baby / And my friends swear I’ve gone crazy / I don’t know how to act, I don’t know what to say

Chorus:

‘Cause oh my God, he walked in / Like a 6’2 dream heaven sent / He says what he means and he means what he says / And he’s funny and he’s smart / And he’s good in (good in) / Maybe love ain’t always what it was / Not cryin’ and dyin’ and messin’ me up / I think I’m really happy / I think I wanna stay / Oh my God, am I okay?

Who knew guys still brought flowers? / Or picked up the phone before a last call hour? / And not ’cause they cheated / And not ’cause they lied / And not ’cause they’re sort of sorry after a fight

And, wait? / There’s guys that can communicate? / That aren’t looking for a heart to break? / Always thought, hell no, no way…

Repeat Chorus

I don’t feel like a sad song soundtrack / The old me doesn’t know how to feel about that / Am I okay? / I think I’m okay…

Repeat Chorus

I check my pulse and my heart’s still beatin’ / Exhale, I think I’m still breathin’…

Top 20 Songs of 2024, Ranked (So Far)

New country artists rule this Top Country Songs of 2024 list, but that doesn’t mean traditional country isn’t represented early and often.

Airplay charts, sales data and streaming numbers helped make this list of country music’s Top 20 Songs of 2024, but staff and Taste of Country reader opinion were most influential.

Songs included on previous Top Country Songs lists were not eligible. A song may have been released in 2023, but it had to have the majority of recorded airplay or impact this year to count.
