At the Toby Keith tribute concert in Nashville earlier this week, Lainey Wilson made a dramatic entrance on horseback, riding from the back of the arena to take her place in the spotlight onstage. The latest release from Wilson’s upcoming album Whirlwind continues her equine theme with help from another country songwriter who knows her way around a stable: “Good Horses” is a duet with Miranda Lambert.

Wilson, Lambert, and frequent Lambert collaborator Luke Dick wrote the easygoing track, which delivers a “don’t fence me in” message of wanderlust, but with the reassurance that those roaming always return to the ones they love.

“31 years is a long time coming/Feet off the ground but I’ma still running,” Wilson, now 32, sings in the first verse, before tossing the reins to Lambert, who voices Wilson’s own origin story: “Come a long way since I left Louisiana/My dream tied on like a red bandana.” They come together throughout the song to put a lover’s mind at ease, singing, “If you wanna love me/You don’t need a rope/You just need to know/Good horses come home.”

“Good Horses” is the fourth song released from Whirlwind, following “Country’s Cool Again,” the single “Hang Tight Honey,” and “4x4xU.” Produced by Jay Joyce (Eric Church), Whirlwind is the follow-up to Wilson’s Grammy-winning album Bell Bottom Country and arrives Aug. 23 via BBR Music Group.

Wilson is currently on tour — with the band that helped record Whirlwind in the studio — and will appear at the Grand Ole Opry on Aug. 14, the same night that Post Malone makes his Opry debut.
