Pictures shared ahead of 1923 Season 2, Episode 5 introduce a brand-new character and preview a meeting of two people who seem destined to cross one another.

Fans of the show and the Dutton Rules podcast have known that Spencer Dutton and Mamie Fossett would cross paths, and this finally appears to be the week it happens. Photos shared by Paramount+ indicate their meeting isn’t pleasant, but we won’t spoil anything, yet.

1923 Season 2, Episode 4 Recap:

Season 2 of 1923 is set on five stages across America. At the Yellowstone ranch, Zane undergoes successful surgery to relieve the pressure in his head and Elizabeth discovers she’s pregnant, again. Not a bad day, right?

Stage 2 is Donald Whitfield’s house, where he introduces a plan to build an airport and winter resort on Jacob Dutton’s land to a group of eager investors. Moments later he tells Banner about a nearby county without a population, AKA the train station. Then, Banner is dispatched to throw the first body over the cliff. Lindy had too much fun with Christie and accidentally killed her.

Viewers hate these scenes, and for good reason, but it looks like there’s more to come as Lindy is dispatched to find another “doll.”

Alexandra (Stage 3) boards a train west after being beaten by a mugger in New York City. Some thought she might have lost the baby in the attack, but that’s not guaranteed.

Spencer also boarded a train (Stage 4) after escaping a sheriff in Fort Worth, Texas. There he killed two hoboes and injured a young girl trying to assault him. He rolls off the train in North Texas — Marshal Fossett territory (Stage 5) — where Teonna has just learned she’s a wanted woman.

1923 Season 2, Episode 5 Preview:

Pictures from 1923 Episode 5 zoom in on a scene fans saw in the show’s trailer. Spencer is under a tree being woken up by Marshal Mamie Fossett. How this goes is anyone’s guess, but another photo finds the Marshal and her men pointing guns at someone, so it’s reasonable to assume they approach him with caution.

We expect some clarity on Alex’s pregnancy situation this week, but there’s only one picture of her on the train. She looks … worried? Helpless? Afraid? Certainly she’s not met another villain so soon, right?

The last picture is of a new character named Hillary, played by Janet Montgomery (New Amsterdam). Whether she’s there to aid or obstruct Alex is something we’ll have to wait to learn, but she and the man next to her seem to be of means, which would indicate a certain set of manners and values.

Finally, there are several pictures of Teonna. This tracks, as we figured she’d be on the run after discovering her wanted posters all over Amarillo. Marshal Kent and Father Renaud have been closing in on her and this could finally be the episode where she sees some action. Remember, she is either grandmother or great-grandmother to Thomas Rainwater in Yellowstone, so she’ll live.

As for Pete and Runs His Horses? Gosh, that feels like betting on Wofford to win the NCAA tournament.
