Miranda Lambert’s ‘No Man’s Land’ is Her Kind of Love Story

Miranda Lambert’s ‘No Man’s Land’ is Her Kind of Love Story

“No Man’s Land” isn’t just the next song to come out as a preview for Miranda Lambert‘s Postcards From Texas album: It’s also the project’s first love song.

In its lyrics, Lambert spells out how she wants to be loved: Not like a possession or a subordinate, but rather like the free spirit that she is. She co-wrote the song with frequent collaborator Luke Dick, and it clocks in at Track 10 on Postcards From Texas.

“‘No Man’s Land’ is a love song to me, and it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve maybe ever written,” Lambert explains in a statement. “When Luke sent me the initial idea, the lyrics just struck me — they were so beautiful, so raw.

“It felt like, ‘This is how I can explain it to the man who’s willing to love a girl like me — a free spirit, a wildflower, a wild card with a big heart and all the love to give,'” she continues. “It’s that sentiment of ‘Love her but leave her wild,’ and it’s not really a warning, it’s just a, ‘Let me tell you what you’re getting into, and if you wanna jump off and take this ride with me, then let’s go.'”

In real life, of course, Lambert has already found her free-spirited perfect match: Since 2019, she’s been married to Brendan McLoughlin, a former NYPD officer who hails from Staten Island. The couple kept their relationship private until about a month after they wed, but he’s since become a fixture on her social media and by her side at red carpets.

Postcards From Texas will arrive in full next month. Lambert has already shared early tracks from the project, including “Wranglers,” “Dammit Randy” and “Alimony.”

Miranda Lambert, “No Man’s Land” Lyrics:

She might be 90 miles from Pecos / Light years from anywhere / Goodbye on her cinnamon breath / And freedom in her hair / She’s deep Comancheria / Even in the Malibu sand / And even when she’s in your arms / She’s still no man’s land

Chorus:

So love her like a Mustang / Like a wild thing / Better let her run free / If she wants to love ya / You let her love ya / You give her everything / The fire in your chest / The very last breath / Of the boy who’s unravelin’ / The man who’s obsessed / With the woman, the girl / The wide open world in your hands / She’s no man’s land

She’s purple heather on the high plains / Her heart’s a mystery / You’re lucky if you get a glimpse of / Her rosehips among the weeds / She’s a deep Sedona sunset / Behind the Santa Ana winds / You can hold her for forever / But she’s still no man’s land

Repeat Chorus x 2

She might be 90 miles from Pecos / Light years from anywhere / Goodbye on her cinnamon breath / And freedom in her hair
