Elle King Is Back Together With Her Son’s Dad, Dan Tooker

Elle King and her one-time fiancé Dan Tooker have rekindled their romantic relationship.

The “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” star confirmed that they were “back together” to People, explaining that Lucky, the 3-year-old son they share, played a big part in their decision to give their relationship another shot.

“He’s definitely brought me and his dad back together just because, what are we doing?” King says. “We have everything that both of us have ever wanted right here. Let’s put our weapons down. Come on. This is it. This is life. It doesn’t get better than this.”

“This is worth wiping a slate clean,” she continues. “This is worth all the effort in the world. My family, this is what deserves all the energy and effort.”

The family is “starting fresh,” King says, complete with a new home.

“We just bought a really gorgeous new house in the mountains of Nashville … I’m very happy. I’m very content, which is nice, and I don’t know if I’ve ever really felt that, so it’s a blessing.”

King and Tooker got engaged in 2020, and Lucky was born in 2021. In spring 2023, breakup buzz started circling after she appeared onstage in a blazer that read “Single” and shared a handful of social media posts alluding to a newfound solo status. But King never fully confirmed the breakup, and occasionally, Tooker made appearances in her family-centric social media posts.

Speaking of their rocky road to getting back together, King says she and Tooker simply had work to do as independent people.

“We had to grow,” she explains, quipping, “I’ll try anything twice.”

King will release her next single, “High Road,” on Friday (Sept. 20). In keeping with her last album, Come Get Your Wife, the new song will fall within the country format.
